- Description: According to the Gazzetta Ticinese of July 1, 1906, Émile Lonjumeau de Otandidier, described as a "professional globe-trotter,” passed through Lugano during a walking journey from Paris. Having crossed France, the Mont Cenis pass, and the cities of Turin and Milan, he arrived in Lugano’s main square, where his eccentric yet cheerful appearance attracted attention. Unlike other travellers, he declared that he journeyed without a female companion and was content with his solitude. His journey was reportedly motivated by a wager requiring him to return to Paris on foot within a certain period, though the newspaper declined to specify the exact time limit. The account also remarked that, unlike many globe-trotters of the era, he asked for no money from the editors, which earned him the description of a “respectable” traveller
