- Description: On 24 November 1919, aged 30, she departed Celje with only her portable typewriter "Erika", a ten-language dictionary she had compiled herself and $130. Over eight years she circumnavigated the globe alone, visiting more than 60 countries across South and North America, the Pacific Islands, Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and India, returning to Celje in January 1928 at the request of her dying mother. She financed the entire journey by teaching languages, translating for embassies, giving lectures and writing articles for European newspapers. She also collected over 840 ethnographic and artistic artefacts, now held at the Celje Regional Museum. Her three-volume travelogue Einsame Weltreise (1929-1933) sold over 80,000 copies and was reviewed by more than 100 newspapers worldwide including the New York Times. She published over 24 books in total
