- Description: According to contemporary press reports, Demetrio Dann, a Romanian globe-trotter, was undertaking a round-the-world journey on foot. By the time of his appearance in Lugano, he had already covered about 19,000 km (11,800 miles) and claimed to have visited 75 countries. Originally accompanied by four companions, he continued alone after the others died during the journey. He had about 1,000 km (620 miles) left to complete the trip and win a wager. Dann reportedly spoke twelve languages and said he had worn out nearly 500 pairs of sandals. Postcards circulated during his travels portrayed him in distinctive clothing, carrying a large staff, and styling himself as “world champion of the 100,000 kilometers” (62,100 miles)

- Description: In the late 1940s, Haiko de Poel embarked on a round-the-world journey on foot and hitchhiking. As a journalist, he differed from other globetrotters in his unique approach to travel: he funded his adventures by taking on odd jobs along the way. Tall and robust, Haiko was known for wearing the traditional costume of Dutch rural workers during his travels, a clear indication of his roots and adventurous spirit

- Description: In 2011, after covering 60'000 km across 3 continents and 38 countries in 14 months, setting a Guinness World Record for the longest journey by quad bike (four-wheeled motorcycles), two Australians crossed the finish line in Sydney, in tribute to their teammate who tragically died mid-journey. Jamie Kenyon, 25, and Kristopher Teddy Davant, 27, known as the "Expedition Quad Squad," crossed the bay bridge on their vehicles, escorted by police and hundreds of motorcyclists, in the final leg of a journey that began in Istanbul. The duo had almost given up after the death of their companion, 24-year-old Italian Valerio De Simoni, whose bike was struck by an out-of-control car in Malawi. In addition to breaking the previous record of 27'141 km, the Quad Squad used their adventure to support the NGO Oxfam and raised the equivalent of about 40'000 euros for the fight against poverty
