• Description: Peter Bray, the first to kayak across the Atlantic from west to east without tropical trade winds or the safety of the east-to-west route's warmer waters, achieved a notable feat in ocean kayaking. His initial attempt in 2000 nearly ended in tragedy when he launched from Newfoundland with 100 days of food, only to encounter a malfunctioning electronic pumping system and rough seas, leading to a near-death experience and a four-month recovery. A year later, Bray embarked again with a technologically advanced kayak, facing numerous challenges including storms, equipment failures, and a close encounter with a killer whale. Despite these obstacles, Bray successfully completed the 76-day journey, landing in Ireland. His achievement, while technologically aided, stands as a significant accomplishment in transoceanic kayaking
