Raggiungiamo faticosamente la città perché la strada è rotta e bisogna fare una deviazione nel fango a mezza ruota, poi, dopo avermi trovato alloggio, questo affabile signore mi accompagnerà insieme alla moglie e alla graziosa figliola a visitare lo stupefacente Tempio d’oro dei Sikhs […].
Da Amristar raggiungo Dehli in una sola tappa. Le strade sarebbero buone, ma piove in continuità e l’acqua le ha seriamente danneggiate, interminabili file di auto e camions attendono ferme che venga improvvisata una massicciata per poter passare. Con la Vespa riesco a sgusciare tutte le volte che trovo questi frequenti intoppi e, una volta di più, mi dichiaro fortunato di essere motociclista.
C’è un disordinato traffico, soprattutto ciclistico, e bisogna prestare grande attenzione a non combinare guai perché viaggiano a frotte e si spostano solo all’ultimo. […] L’attraversamento dei paesi grossi è una cosa spasmodica: ovunque vacche pigre e una folla che s muove lentamente e indifferente al sopraggiungere del veicolo. Bisogna suonare continuamente il claxon e avanzare, con la rabbia in corpo, a passo d’uomo.
[…] Anche qui ottima accoglienza. La Vespa viene pulita e ingrassata, così come “caricati” (non sostituiti) sono gli ammortizzatori. […] In India ho sempre trovato gran traffico. Molte Vespa, che vengono costruite su licenza anziché importate, così come le Fiat; una Vespa costa la bellezza di 390 mila lire e bisogna aspettare 4 anni prima di averla, mentre per una Fiat 1100, la consegna avviene dopo 6 anni!
