Pearson Joseph (w2356)

  • Description: Joseph Pearson joined the Sydney Wanderers cyclists' club in 1882, participating in various races and covering long distances up to Melbourne. He meticulously recorded the stages, routes, the condition of the roads traveled, and refreshment options. Over six years, he covered about 12'000 miles (19'300 km) with a velocipede. In 1893, he ventured onto the roads of Great Britain and the old continent, totaling 3'500 miles (5'633 km). Drawing from the maps purchased in Europe, in 1896 he published the Cyclists' Touring Guide of New South Wales. Several other publications (maps and guides) followed, which became indispensable companions for cyclists or moped riders for decades
