Gallot Yves (w1960)

  • Description: Yves Gallot, nicknamed "the King of Walkers", undertook numerous walking adventures, such as his 817 laps around Darcy Square in Dijon or the journey from Lyon to Paris. His exploits, rifle in tow, often graced the front pages of newspapers. Among his most notable adventures, he covered 2'000 km in twenty-eight days, and then 2'421 km by circling Paris 62 times. He also challenged a horse rider in an endurance race, winning after covering 278.2 km. In his "Art of Walking", Gallot shares useful advice on the most appropriate walking technique ("never keep any part of the body stiff"), clothing, balms, diet, and beverages. He noted that if the army followed his principles, soldiers would be expert walkers. Gallot also recounts how he was introduced to walking by the Native Americans of North America, where he had arrived to get as far away as possible from a tyrannical and violent father
