- Description: Palle Huld was a Danish actor and globe-trotter. In 1928, at only 15 years old, he won a competition organized by a Copenhagen newspaper to celebrate the centenary of Jules Verne’s birth. The prize was a journey around the world without ever flying. Huld’s itinerary took him through Europe and the Soviet Union to Japan, and then across Canada and the United States, returning to Denmark after 44 days and roughly 35,000 km (21,750 miles). His journey attracted major media attention and later inspired Hergé in the creation of Tintin
