Weblink collection

We've gathered a collection of links to some of the most informative travel and tourism websites out there. The list is highly dynamic, especially when it comes to globetrotting ventures. That's why we've launched a new catalog to replace the static list: https://museumoftravel.org/index.php/en/links. If you come across any broken links or would like to add a link, please let us know!

Travel & Flavours, A Culinary Odyssey

Travel is not just about seeing new places; it's also about tasting them. Every destination has its own unique flavors, dishes that tell stories of culture, tradition, and history. Embarking on a culinary odyssey allows travelers to explore the world through their taste buds, creating memories that are as flavorful as they are unforgettable. From the spicy street foods of Bangkok to the sophisticated pastries of Paris, each location offers a distinct culinary experience. Tasting traditional dishes is like taking a journey into the heart of a culture. It's about understanding the local way of life, the regional ingredients, and the ancestral cooking methods that have been passed down through generations. Below is a selection of aphorisms dedicated to this theme.

Adventure motorcycling books

The world of adventure motorcycling has produced a rich literary tradition, chronicling epic journeys across continents, through remote landscapes, and along dangerous routes. These books capture the spirit of freedom, adventure, and discovery that defines motorcycle travel, from early pioneering rides to modern circumnavigations. They offer readers both practical insights and inspirational tales of courage, resilience, and the transformative power of the open road.

Pedestrian circumnavigators

The ultimate test of human endurance and determination, a pedestrian circumnavigation requires traveling around the entire globe on foot, crossing continents and covering tens of thousands of miles. These individuals have accomplished one of the most challenging feats imaginable, walking or running their way around the world while overcoming geographical, political, and personal obstacles.

Traveling with caution: Destinations to avoid

As the world becomes increasingly accessible, the allure of exploring every corner of our planet grows stronger. However, not all destinations are advisable for travel. Various factors such as political instability, environmental concerns, health risks, and ethical issues can turn certain places into no-go zones for responsible travelers, also in the past. Below is a selection of aphorisms dedicated to this theme.

Top10: Travel museums

Travel has always been an essential part of human experience, connecting cultures, expanding horizons, and igniting curiosity. Across the globe, a unique category of museums captures this spirit: travel museums. These institutions are dedicated to showcasing the art, history, and science of travel, offering visitors an opportunity to embark on a journey through time and space without leaving the museum walls.

Flying? No Shame in That! The Airplane is a Sustainable Mode of Transport

In recent years, aviation has become one of the main targets in environmental debates. But what do the data actually tell us? Is it fair to talk about “flight shame”? A careful analysis of statistical sources reveals a much more complex and nuanced reality. Air transport accounts for only a small fraction of global emissions, and comparative metrics show that other modes of transport -often perceived as “greener”- are not necessarily more sustainable. This short article invites readers to reflect, with data in hand, on how important it is to distinguish between perception and reality when it comes to environmental issues (and beyond).
