- Description: Vittorio Beonio Brocchieri combined his academic career with work as a pilot and foreign correspondent for Corriere della Sera in the 1930s. In 1930, he flew to Greenland in a Caproni Ca.100 biplane, where he identified human remains and climbed an area later named Brocchieridalen. Between 1931 and 1934, he undertook long-distance flights such as Milan–Baghdad, Sudan, and Rome–Irkutsk–Rome; during these journeys he also visited gold mines in Kolyma, where political prisoners were employed. His reports as aviator and correspondent were published in books including Viaggio attorno al mondo (1933), Da solo, traverso i cieli (1934), Al vento delle steppe (1935), Cieli d’Etiopia (1936), Vita selvaggia (1938), In volo traverso i secoli (1941), and Il Marco Polo (1952)
