- Description: George Loher traveled the route from Oakland (California) to New York by bicycle. Departing on August 11, 1895, he decided to take an alternative route compared to those taken by his peers. He followed the Pacific coast to Portland, then headed East towards Idaho, Montana, and Dakota before reaching Chicago.
