1. Purpose of the website
The Museum of Travel and Tourism (MTT) is a non-profit cultural initiative. Its website is intended for cultural and educational purposes: to foster knowledge of the history of travel and travellers. MTT is committed to sharing the information it gathers as widely as possible.
2. Copyright, licences and use of contents
The website brings together materials of different kinds, and different terms apply to each.
2.1. Original content produced by MTT — the editorial texts, traveller profiles, FAQs and exhibitions written by the Museum — is released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). It may be shared and adapted, including for commercial purposes, provided the source is credited as: "Museum of Travel and Tourism, museumoftravel.org".
2.2. Catalogue data and metadata — names, dates, means of transport, geographical references, links and similar factual information — are released into the public domain under a Creative Commons Zero dedication (CC0 1.0), to allow free reuse and interoperability with open-data ecosystems such as Wikidata.
2.3. Materials in the public domain (for example historical texts and images no longer under copyright) are published as such and identified, where possible, with a Public Domain Mark. They may be used according to their public-domain status.
2.4. Third-party materials still protected by copyright — including many images and quoted texts — remain the property of their respective rights holders. They are reproduced here for cultural and educational purposes, with credits where available, and are not covered by the licences in 2.1 and 2.2. Anyone wishing to reuse such materials is responsible for obtaining permission from the rights holders.
2.5. Individual items may carry their own credits or licensing terms, indicated with the item; these prevail over the general terms above.
3. Contributions from the public
Materials submitted through the Globetrotter Form are published on the basis of the licence granted by the contributor at the time of submission (see the form). Contributors remain responsible for ensuring they hold the necessary rights to the materials they provide.
4. Notifications, corrections and removal
4.1. Despite careful verification, errors or omissions may occur.
