In late 1910, three American adventurers set off on a remarkable around-the-world journey by automobile. Sponsored by the Hupp Motor Car Corporation, the trip was intended to publicize the durability of the Hupmobile and help stimulate export sales.
- Description: Luigi Masetti is the first and perhaps the most famous Italian cyclist of the nineteenth century. From 1892 to 1900, he traveled tens of thousands of kilometers around the world. In 1892, he covered 3'500 km on the roads of the Old Continent. The following year, sponsored by Corriere della Sera, he left Milan to reach the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Pioniere dei viaggi avventurosi e protagonista di grandi imprese, nel 1893 compì il viaggissimo Milano-Londra-Chicago-Londra-Milano in bicicletta. Luigi Masetti era un poeta del viaggio, un eroe del fango e della polvere, un ciclista che riuniva le folle al suo passaggio. L'anarchico delle due ruote, così il fondatore del Corriere della Sera definì il primo cicloviaggiatore del quale si abbia memoria. Il resoconto del suo viaggio venne pubblicato a puntate sulle pagine del Corriere della Sera e un suo lungo ritratto apparve sulla rivista del Touring Club Italiano.

George Martin was awarded the Heisman Humanitarian Award in 2007. Martin anchored the NY Giants defense as a defensive end from 1975-1988. He served as co-captain of the Giants' Super Bowl championship team in 1986, as well as President of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). After reading "By Motor to the Golden Gate" by Emily Post, published in 1916, I was fired by a desire to make a similar tour. This desire grew into a firm determination the more I re-read her charming book.
